Christmas was nice this year. We had a big family dinner at my parent’s house and it was nice to see everyone. Here are some miscellaneous pictures …

airport

Christmas Eve: Waiting at the airport for Christina’s flight from the Philippines. Manila – Tokyo – Detroit – Atlanta – West Palm Beach. I couldn’t imagine. I’d be exhausted. But, she arrived safe and 15 minutes early and her luggage made it, too. Welcome home. ;)

Christmas Day: Vegetable tray w/ ranch dressing dip I made. Looks pretty appetizing, even if I do say so myself.

Day After Christmas: Shopping at Dillard’s. Every year, mom adds additional pieces to her Christmas dish set. And every year, the prices go up. But, always 50% off after Christmas. :) Starting at 7am, this was our day … Target (PSL), Dunkin Donuts, Kohl’s, Denny’s, Staples, Macy’s, JCPenney, Dillard’s, Sears, Target (Stuart).

target

Take a look at this picture. The big sign says Clearance: 50% off or more on original prices. Reduced price registers at checkout. And, there are little Clearance signs on the bottom shelf as well. The box of cookie mix I wanted to buy was regularly $6.99 and had a Clearance sticker on it. So, I figured it would be $3.50. Nope, it rang up $5.97. I asked the cashier what calculation Target uses to determine $5.97 is 50% of $6.99. She said the cookie mix isn’t 50% off even though all the signs say 50% off. She said she could call the manager over but I didn’t want to go through all that, so I told her I didn’t want it. But, is it just me or are those signs misleading?

How to shop at Target …

  1. Drive to Target.
  2. Park.
  3. Walk into the store.
  4. Take a cart or basket. (Always available and clean.)
  5. Place goods in the cart or basket.
  6. Go the cashier and pay. (Usually, no lines.)
  7. Take the goods out to your car.
  8. Drive home, happy.

How to shop at Wal-Mart …

  1. Drive to Wal-Mart.
  2. Drive around the parking lot 2 or 3 times to look for an empty space not taken up by shopping carts.
  3. Park.
  4. Walk into the store.
  5. Walk back out of the store to get a shopping cart. You’ll only find them scattered about in the parking lot. Fhagettabout a basket. You will take a cart and you will like it.
  6. Throw away the rotten banana peel and/or McDonald’s garbage left in the cart.
  7. Start to push the cart. You will probably notice one of the wheels doesn’t work. So, repeat steps 5 through 7 until you find a cart that works and doesn’t have sticky stuff all over it.
  8. Place goods in the cart.
  9. Go to the cash registers. Don’t be scared. Even though there are 30 cash registers, there will only be 2 open. So, you’ll only have to choose between the really long line or the really, really long line.
  10. Wait.
  11. Wait.
  12. Wait.
  13. Wait.
  14. Wait.
  15. Oh crap, the cashier’s light is blinking now. The cashier needs a CSM. You’ll be there forever!
  16. Wait.
  17. Wait.
  18. Wait.
  19. Wait.
  20. Wait.
  21. Oh great, it’s your turn. Put your goods up on the counter along with your no-longer-frozen frozen foods. Those Lean Cuisine Dinners (good though they may be) defrost in a hurry when you’re standing in line for 45 minutes. God, I hope you didn’t buy ice cream …
  22. Pay the cashier. Try not to laugh when the little pin pad asks, “Was your store clean today? Yes or No.”
  23. Take the goods out to your car.
  24. Drive home, exhausted and devout in your promise to yourself to never set foot in Wal-Mart again.
