Why do we seem to have such bad luck when it comes to choosing flights that leave and arrive on time? But, it’s interesting to watch airline delays develop as they happen. Apparently, something was wrong with the airplane’s navigational system. But, I mean … is the navigation system really necessary? Florida hasn’t moved recently.
Interesting to note the route they plan to take. It’s all over land. I’m guessing the plane they’re in isn’t ETOPS certified. I can’t remember what ETOPS stands for, but it has something to do with how far the plane is certified to be from a landing point, usually out over the ocean. I know it jokingly stands for Engines Turn or Passengers Swim. Compare it to the route the same flight took a few days ago on a plane that probably was ETOPS certified.
The more direct route over the Atlantic Ocean would have saved them about 15 minutes flying time. They’re expected to land at 2:16pm – 39 minutes late.
