Ford is a funny car company. A few years back, they decided to abandon the Taurus in favor of the Five Hundred. So, for a couple of years, they manufactured both the Taurus and the Five Hundred. Then, they discontinued the Taurus. A year later, they decided retiring the Taurus was stupid so brought it back by changing the name of the Five Hundred back to Taurus. So, even though T4 is actually a Five Hundred, deep down underneath it really is a Taurus.
So, I’ve owned a second, third, forth and now the car that eventually became the fifth generation Ford Taurus.

Here are some more pictures.

5/13 @ 11am : Just heard from the claims adjuster from my insurance company. Repairs would cost about 225% of the estimated value of the car. T3 is offically totalled.
The adjuster did say the car was in excellent shape for the number of miles it had on it. He even rated the seats, carpet and interior as good instead of minor wear which he said was pretty amazing considering the car had over 140,000 miles on it. And, he did take my new tires into consideration as well as the upgraded features of the car such as the Mach audio system, leather seats, CD changer, etc. Damn, I’m going to miss this car!
5/13 @ 1pm : I got a copy of the police report. V1 is the guy who hit me, we are V2 and V3 was the car in front of us.

Updated with new pictures (5/13) … ‘01 Taurus Accident
T3, a 2001 Ford Taurus, 8 years old with 142,000 miles under her belt, passed May 10, 2008 shortly after 6pm after having just recently been paid off. She was born in Atlanta and after a couple of years was put up for adoption at Holman Ford in Mt. Laurel, NJ. She lived in Pine Hill, NJ from 2004 until 2006 when she was moved to Port St. Lucie, FL. She was a frequent guest on both the New Jersey and Florida Turnpikes as well as Interstate 95. Her greatest accomplishment was a three day 1,000 mile drive from New Jersey to Florida. Her companionship on weekend trips to Kohl’s and Target will be greatly missed. T3 was an organ donor and her parts will be used to help others. A short service was held at the tow yard on Mon., May 12 at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, please send money towards my new car payment. Thank you.

May 11
What started as a typical Saturday afternoon turned into a big cluster-f*ck of a day. We were stopped at the traffic signal at the intersection of Port St. Lucie Blvd. & Floresta Dr. I was driving, Christina was in the passenger seat and Mom was in the back seat behind me. We were discussing what we wanted for dinner right before this happened without warning:

In a few seconds, it was over. But, it took me a little longer to realize what had happened. I saw Tina was okay so I told her to call 911. I shut the car off and got out to check on mom. I opened the back door to find her covered in glass and actually a little further forward than she used to be. The impact was so hard and so fast, the back seat actually got pushed forward while the back window shattered and sent the pieces of glass flying all over the cabin.
Tina went to the hospital because of some abdominal and chest pain. They checked her out, but as we suspected, it was just from the seat belt - better safe than sorry. Otherwise we walked away with just some bumps and bruises as did the people who hit us.
I think the saddest part of the day was the fact that the trunk was full of shopping. Envelopes from Staples, picture frames, a closet organizer and some clothes from Kohl’s, some bathroom stuff and night lights from Linens & Things and some candle holders and pig figurines from Kirkland. I was able to salvage one mangled candle holder, mom’s pig figurines and the closet organizer. The rest of the stuff was stuck.
And, as has become tradition, the car was totalled with four brand new tires and a full tank of gas.
Seems like I’m on some sort of ‘once every four years’ schedule. Let’s recap …
- ‘93 Taurus (‘T1‘) : Totalled in Egg Harbor City, NJ in January, 2000
According to the police report and the insurance company, 0% my fault. I hit a car who made a left turn from the opposite direction into oncoming traffic. Unfortunately, I was the oncoming traffic. Luckily, a police officer witnessed the accident.
- ‘97 Taurus (‘T2‘) : Totalled in Gloucester Township, NJ in January, 2004
According to the police report, 0% my fault. But, the insurance company insisted I was 25% at fault. I was hit head-on on my side of the road in a parking lot while I was stopped at a stop sign. I guess the insurance company just figured I was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
- ‘01 Taurus (‘T3‘) : (officially on May 13, 2008 @ 10:30am) Totalled in Port St. Lucie, FL
According to the police report and the insurance company, 0% my fault. Rear-ended while stopped in traffic.
