Emma went back to the pediatrician this morning and she is back up to her birth weight. Actually, she has exceed her birth weight. She’s now 7 lb, 7.4 oz.
She is a non-stop eating machine. But, I think the doctor will change our feeding plan now to give her more formula and breast milk at greater intervals instead of smaller amounts at lesser intervals. We shall see.
5/27 (Birth) : 7 lb 6 oz
5/29 (Discharged) : 7 lb 2 oz
6/1 : 6 lb 4 oz
6/2 : 6 lb 11 oz
6/3 : 7 lb
6/5 : 7 lb 7 oz
The Similac Advance EarlyShield Infant Formula that the doctor gave us seems to be agreeing with her. We were worried about the formula giving her stomach cramps, but that doesn’t appear to be the case.
We’re supplementing the breast milk with the formula for now.
But, Emma is turning into a little piggy! She drinks alot!
Thankfully, we have gotten lots and lots of free samples from Emma’s doctor and HB has sent us a lot of her left over formula from when her babies were infants, so we’re very grateful for that.
Mom and baby are home today. This is the first time in 3 days that they have no where to go. So, hopefully Tina can catch up on some sleep.
Last night, Emma pooped so hard, she pooped right through the diaper and onto her outfit. What a mess! You can actually hear her pooping. She gets this look on her face and then scrunches up her nose and you here splat! Oh boy, time for a diaper change.
We have tried Pampers, Huggies and (gasp!) Hell-Mart brand diapers. My favorite so far is the Huggies. We have also tried the Pampers, Huggies and Publix brand wipes. Right now, we’re using the Publix brand, but I think I prefer the Pampers brand.
Emma went back to the pediatrician today at 9am. She weighs exactly 7 lbs today. This brings her weight loss down to just 5% of her birth weight.

She goes back on Friday for her 4th appointment.
Christina is also doing great. She’s such a great mom. She’s very patient with the baby and you can tell the baby enjoys being close to her.
As for me, I am tired but I really cannot complain because I know I have been sleeping more than Christina has been. She has been letting me sleep a little more since I’m back to work already. But, I’m still pretty tired. And really, kind of delirious.
Case in point – last night, there was a pile of papers on the coffee table. Under normal circumstances, I could have tackled that pile of papers in 10 minutes. But this time, it took me half an hour to turn the big pile of papers into 5 smaller piles of paper and I stopped there because I was too tired to continue. So now, not only is there papers on the coffee table, there is papers on the chairs, too.
Another example – As soon as I got up this morning, Christina asked me to take Emma in for a diaper change. (I keep wanting to call them nappies. I think this is because of all the UK TV shows I watch.) Anyway, I got out of bed and took her to the changing table in the nursery. I couldn’t get the new diaper on until I realized I was trying to do it backwards (RELAX – I had the diaper backwards, NOT the baby). Once I was done, it was obvious Helen Keller could have done a better job, so I had to loosen it, reposition it and put it all back together. If anybody was watching me on BabyCam, they would have laughed for sure.
We’re really enjoying this whole parenting thing. The sense of new found responsibility can be overwhelming, but it’s all good. I think this was a great decision we made.
Emma went back to the pediatrician today.
She gained 7 ounces in the past 24 hours. We’re very happy. This brings her weight loss down to just 9% of her birth weight which is within the safe range of no more than 10%.
She is still at the pediatricians office with Christina and my mom.
Also, I added some more pictures to Flickr here.
