I Publix’ed on Sunday and last night, Tina and I Walgreens’ed twice and Winn-Dixie’ed.

I cleaned up at Publix. I got about $105 worth of groceries for $32. Even the cashier was like, “How the hell did you do this?” Ha! I mastered my plan of attack at home and was in and out of the store in 25 minutes.  I did go a little overboard and ended up buying 16 boxes of Barilla pasta. But, I got them for 40¢ each compared to the $1.39 regular price.  It’s good until 2011, so I figure we’ll be done with it by then.

I went to the gym last night. I really like this new, local gym called Snap Fitness compared to LAFitness. They give you a key card and you can workout anytime 24×7. You could work out at 3am if you wanted to. Why you would want to, I dunno. But, you could.

Anyway … what’s for lunch today? I’m hungry. I’ll probably go to Freshco and get rice again. ^_^

Once again, I am bored!

The economic slow down coupled with stagnant wages and above-average inflation is hitting every one’s wallets hard. I am no exception after having recently lost the Florida Lotto (unfortunately). For lunch today, I ordered from the Wendy’s Value Menu (except for the ginormous unsweet iced tea  – whatever, it’s Florida and it’s hot).

Could I have assembeled the same meal at home for $5.46? Let’s see …

Large Iced Tea $1.99
I estimate it cost them about 25¢ for the iced tea.

Jr.  Bacon Cheeseburger $0.99
The Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger contains a 1.1oz beef patty, a slice of american cheese, 2 bacon strips (5g), a tablespoon of mayo, a tomato slice, a leaf of lettuce and a sandwich bun. If I bought these items at a grocery store, the cost would be …

• 1.1oz ground beef (80/20) @ $2.19/lb = 15¢
• 1 slice american cheese @ $2.99/16 slices = 19¢
• 2 bacon strips (5g) @ $1.99/lb = 2¢
• 1 tablespoon mayo @ $5.99/48oz  = 6¢
• 1 tomato slice (21g) @ $1.49/lb = 7¢
• 1 lettuce leaf (15g) @ $1.29/18oz = 4¢
• 1 sandwich bun @ $1.49/8 = 19¢

Making this exact sandwich at home would cost $0.72.

5 Piece Chicken Nuggets $0.99
This one is easy to figure out. $6.39 buys you a bag of 45 nuggets. So, 5 of them costs $0.71.

The Honey Mustard Grilled Chicken GoWrap includes a 1.7oz grilled chicken fillet, a flour tortilla, shredded cheddar cheese, lettuce and honey mustard sauce.

• 1.7oz grilled chicken fillet @ $2.49/lb = 26¢
• shredded cheddar cheese (9g) @ $2.99/8oz = 12¢
• 1 lettuce leaf (15g) @ $1.29/18oz = 4¢

So, had I of made all these things at home, it would have cost me less than half as much. For price comparisons, I used the ‘ShopRite at Home’ website and most of the things were on sale. And , I didn’t account for things like cooking oil, electricity, sales tax, etc.
