So, I am planning a trip back to New Jersey to visit friends. I almost went back on my promise to myself and bought a ticket on Spirit Airlines. Thankfully, I came to my senses at the last minute and bought a ticket on Delta instead. And, it was cheaper. ULCC? Please.
Last week, I was trying to book an itinerary from West Palm Beach to Atlantic City on Spirit’s website. But, it kept giving me an error. So, I e-mailed them:
“I’m trying to book a flight from PBI to ACY and your website is telling me SEASONAL SERVICE TO/FROM WEST PALM BEACH ENDS APRIL 13, 2008 AND RESUMES ON NOVEMBER 15, 2007. First, that error message makes no sense - how can a flight resume before it’s even ended? And second, I know you fly PBI to ACY in January. So, why can’t I book it?”
Today (5 days later), they reply.
“Thank you for contacting Spirit Airlines. We are currently selling flights in [sic] your desired dates drom [sic] Atlantic City to West Palm Beach. Sincerely, Carlos Martinez.”
Well, at least they didn’t waste their time reading my e-mail.
- ULCC = Ultra Low Cost Carrier. Or, in Spirit’s case - Ultra Low Class Carrier. What Spirit Airlines calls themselves. I think it also stands for Unbelievably Lame Customer Care. I guess you can’t expect much for $9.
- [sic] = Sic is a Latin word meaning thus, so or just as that. In writing, it is placed within square brackets and usually italicized [sic] to indicate that an incorrect or unusual spelling, phrase, punctuation and/or other preceding quoted material has been reproduced from the quoted original and is not a transcription error. Thank you Wikipedia.
